Nigeria: The PLWHA Project
Poverty is one of the contributing factors fueling the spread of HIV in Africa. The high prevalence rate of HIV in Nigeria can be attributed to poverty among other reasons. Majority of PLWHA are mostly widows with little or no source of income, this affects their response to treatment and predisposes their children to infection. Because of this older children are forced out to school to work so as to meet the basic needs of the family. The project aims at providing basic necessities like foodstuffs, detergent, soap, sugar and oil to members of He Intends Victory monthly at every support group meeting. The items will be distributed according to the family size and number of dependents. The goal of the project is the provision of basic necessities of life through the He Intends Victory Necessities of Life Bank to 30 families every month for a year. Cost: $3,000 (for purchase of food and life needs for a year for 30 families). Project beneficiaries include members of He Intends Victory Maiduguri and two outreach centers with no income and those in need of assistance.
