The New Year has started off on a fast pace and here we are already into the second month with changes, challenges, disappointments, discouragements as well as excitement, answers to prayers and salvation. After all, isn’t that what the Christian life is all about! Paul the apostle exhorts us to endure hardships as a good soldier, a competing athlete, and a hard working farmer; so let’s keep going running the race set before us. Now for a look at some of the things that we’ve been privileged to do in our partnership with you here in Belize!

The Belize Christian Media Fellowship met for its third meeting last month and we enjoyed a very sweet time of worshiping the Lord together to start off our time, followed by Louis Wade Jr. shared a powerful devotion on the Nehemiah and the

building of the Wall. Everyone attended was refreshed in the presence of the Lord and saw the parallel of what we have embarked on and the ultimate purpose is for God’s people to worship Him. We discussed many important issues and the challenges facing Christian Media in Belize and God’s timing in uniting us together for ‘such a time as this’. Interim leadership was appointed during our developing stages and I’m honored to be on the leadership team. We look forward to having a few of us representing the Belize Christian Media Fellowship at this year’s National Religious Broadcasters Convention at the end of the month in Nashville, Tennessee. Please pray that we can remain united and have a powerful witness for Christ in Radio & Television Media in Belize!

Edler Blas editing the daily news for broadcasting

Lighthouse Christian Radio Ministry is going through adjustments with our key News person leaving  a few weeks ago. I’ve jumped in doing the morning break; weather report and devotional thought while Edler Blas continues to maneuver his way through the station operations. He’s doing a good job but still struggling with his English which has been a challenge. He continues with his Thursday Evening Spanish Bible Study with several young men attending weekly and assisting me in a lot of the day to day responsibilities. As things settles down at the Lighthouse, Edler will be doing a live-on-air hour long program with song request, dedications, prayer request and encouragement for our Spanish speaking listeners. He is excited about this since that is what he did at the radio station in Salvador. I’m very blessed to have Edler alongside me in ministry as we share the same vision and heart to reach the people of San Pedro Town!

Meet Emil Lamb, a young man I met almost a year ago when he moved to the island for work and seeking to be on his own. He ran into many difficulties and after a month

moved back to his home town of San Ignacio. I’ve kept in touch with him over the year and continued sharing with him and encouraged him toward the Lord. Well a few weeks ago, I called him to see how he was doing at the same time Barry was making plans to leave. He mentioned that he started going to church and wanted to make changes in his life in this New Year. I invited him over for an interview and after a lengthy discussion, I really felt he was sincere about making a change so we invited him to come on board and see what the Lord will do.  He began training in the basic operations of the radio station and also began meeting with him for morning and evening devotions. Several Wednesday nights ago, after our Bible Study in our Discipleship series, I asked Emil if he was ready to make a full commitment of his life to Jesus and become a committed Christian, he quickly responded and dedicated his life to the Lord. The change was noticeable and it has been a thrill watching him grow. Our focus now is to disciple him as he is with us full time and staying in the Staff Apartment with Edler, who spends each evening with him going through a Proverb. Emil is learning the operations of the radio station and helping out in many practical ways but priority is his discipling and taking in the Word. He listens to the teaching program The Word for Today with Pastor Chuck Smith daily and attends Edler’s Bible Study weekly. Please pray for his growth and development in his newly establish relationship with the Lord. Also, would you prayerfully consider supporting him (room/board, food and personal necessities) as our first Discipleship/Intern for Lighthouse Christian Radio Ministry!

Lighthouse Crew, Past and Present:

Johnny Wall returns to Lighthouse for a weekend of training the new staff.

We have been blessed over the years by many who have dedicated their time, talent, and lives to the ministry of Lighthouse Christian Radio. Some have been full time missionaries/volunteers, others as part time paid workers and intern/mentor/discipleship; all contributing to the growth and development of the radio ministry and each leaving significant improvements that have brought us to where we are today. I was thinking about them this past week and here’s a list of them and where they today:

Barry Fraser, 8 months missionary, returned to mainland of Belize, involvement in his church.

Shelly Burgan, 16 months part-time volunteer, now living in Florida and being closer to family.

Nelson Caliz, one year part-time worker, now running his own business in Corozal District.

Johnny Wall, one year missionary, now working full time at Horizon Radio, Spanish Lookout.

Simon Friedrich, one year missionary, now married and leading youth group Siegen, Germany.

Dennis Requena, five years worker, now married, teaching in Primary school in Roaring Creek.

Patricia Lindsay, 5 months missionary, married and living in New Mexico.

Nathan Foss, 6 months missionary, married and living in Southern California.

Abner Sanchez, part time worker, now married and living in Canada.

Ramsey Blanch, 8 months missionary, now married and living in Colorado.

Clive and the new crew Emil, Elmer and Edler

Many others have participated in the ministry in one form or another and we are grateful to the Lord for each and every one and thankful for the contribution they’ve made to bring us where we are today. I remind each who are currently working with us that the Lord blesses our faithfulness in the small things and entrust more to us in the future. Our current team is all Belizeans or permanent residents and it thrills me to apart of raising up nationals ‘faithful men who will be able to teach others also’.

Looking Ahead:

February 26 – March 2: National Religious Broadcasters Convention, Nashville, Tennessee.

March 8 – 17: Simon Zwarts’s family visiting from Australia; officiated wedding few years ago.
