“Because they do not change, therefore they do not fear God.” Psalms 55: 19b

Clive Welsh in the newly refurnished studio of Lighthouse Christian Radio.

Changes are not something that we like and look forward to yet they are the very things that Our Heavenly Father uses to keep us growing and dependant of Him! In a recent morning devotions we looked at Moab settling on his dregs (not the hairstyle) and not allowed himself to be poured from vessel to vessel and as a result his scent had not changed. As I reflect back on the changes that the Lord has done in pouring me from vessel to vessel, some extremely painful and very costly, I now rejoice in the sweet scent and fruit that He has produced in and with my life as a result. As we embark on a new year, new seasons of life and ministry and all of the new changes ahead, let us allow Him to do His work of changing us more and more into His image and likeness with the sweet fragrance of Christ in 2011!

Amazing Grace Christmas Banquet: It wasn’t until arriving at Amazing Grace Christian Fellowship’s parking lot on the Wednesday before Christmas that it began to feel like Christmas! The grounds was transformed into an outdoor restaurant with decorations of lights and ointments, the smell of home cooked food and tons of pies with rich fellowship and friendship. After the feasting, we went inside the church building where the children made many musical presentations, followed by worship and a Christmas message by Pastor Rudy Plett. Being with the Body of believers at Amazing Grace was one of those priceless moment in time that I enjoy and cherish greatly, definitely my family of which I am so blessed to be a part of.

Christmas in San Pedro Town: This past Christmas was the very first of the 8 Christmases that I spent on the island since operating Lighthouse Christian Radio! I’m usually on the mainland house-sitting and recovering from the hectic year or in the US with family and friends. As many were experiencing a ‘White Christmas’ or a cold and wet one we were enjoying beautiful sunny weather along with multitudes of tourists from all over the globe, no doubt escaping the above mentioned weather. This was a special time for me as 3 of my sons (in the faith), Dennis, my Belizean son; Norman, my Mennonite son and Edler, my Nicaraguan son, celebrated the Lord’s birth with me. It was a great fun-filled and relaxing time with tons of laughter and feasting. No home cooked meal but eating out was close enough with lots of homemade Belizean Christmas cakes, cookies, and other goodies from friends. Very grateful for these guys and the Lighthouse Staff!

After Christmas Outreach & New Year’s Day Children Festival:

After several months of planning, a team of 19 people with Believers World Outreach arrived in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye to work alongside of us in putting on the first ever After Christmas Football Tournament, Fun in the Park and New Year’s Day Children Festival. Debbie of BWO contacted me during the fall asking about the possibility of a team coming down after Christmas to minister to the children of San Pedro Town. My first response was not to because it is one of our busy time as we seek to provide the business community with Christmas Greetings to help us raise revenue to pay our yearly radio license fee but knowing that the kids on the island would have nothing to do during their Christmas vacation, the opportunity seemed as an open door to reach out and minister to the many kids on the island who would otherwise be idle with nothing to do. The team came prepared with slightly used football (soccer) jerseys, personalized trophies and metals, tons of donated gifts, items, supplies, VBS material, and lots of love to distribute to the love starving children of San Pedro. The mornings were filled with excitement from 8:30 – 11:30 as 6 teams, ages 9 -11 and 11 – 13 competed for 4 mornings while the younger kids enjoyed learning through making craft and having fun with some of the ladies. The late afternoon were filled with VBS style activities which started off with a lesson of God’s love and the gift of His Son to us to save us from our sin. Many young hearts and lives responded to the message and especially to the love from the messengers as they poured their lives into these young lives.

The week ended with the Children Festival on New Year’s Day where over 400 kids and their parents packed Central Park for a fun time with over 6 stations/booths of games; face painting, ballooning, sack race, water balloon toss, egg race and much more. We gave away many school bags with school supplies, games, balls and the grand prize was a brand new mountain bike but most of all, we presented the real purpose of the entire event, the love of God through His Son Jesus. We also distributed Galcom solar powered fixed-tuned radios set on Lighthouse Christian Radio to 45 families who had never heard of the radio station.

Again, the needs of the residence of San Pedro Town became so evident especially of so

many children that are dealing with hunger, neglect, abuse, and sever family issues to name a few. I was so blessed to observe the team’s outpouring of God’s love to these kids who quickly got attached to them and meaningful relationships were developed as they modeled Christ to them in practical ways. I told the team members how many of them, without realizing it, has become like aunts, uncles, big brother, big sisters and even mothers and fathers to them. So thankful to the Lord for the BWO team and all He accomplished through them…….lives touching lives!

Robin Downs of Calvary Chapel Mercer County, Pennsylvania shared at the one night event called For Women Only Women’s Conference hosted by Lighthouse Christian Radio and Shalom Church of God (Spanish Church). Women from many churches on Ambergris Caye were invited as well as our listening audience to hear Robin shared and encouraged the ladies from the Word. Her husband, Pastor Gregg Downs blessed our staff with morning devotion after our staff meeting and it is such a sweet time of fellowship whenever the folks from CC Mercer County pop in annually to minister to us.

Changes at the Lighthouse:

Edler Blas, our Intern Assistant, completed his first month at Lighthouse have been learning the daily radio station operations and other aspects of ministry. He has been a great help with many practical things starting with referee the soccer tournament, assisting with the team, doing the bread-run, painting the studio, and many other well needed repairs. He is still struggling with learning English again after 10 months immersed in his first language while attending Bible School in El Salvador. He began discipling several guys on Wednesday evening and enjoys teaching the Word in Spanish. Please continue to pray for him as he makes the adjustments! ( Edler sharing the Word with Dennis and Juan Carlos)

Barry Fraser, our full-time missionary, will be leaving the Lighthouse this coming weekend to return to the mainland of Belize. We appreciate very much his 8 months of service in the studio preparing, reading, editing the Daily News and hosting the morning and afternoon shifts. He has done a great job and learned the entire radio station operations when Shelly Burgan left back in September. At age 64, he is in need of a close community of believers and will be seeking opportunities to serve the Lord in his home church in Belmopan. Please pray for direction and vision for his life!

Student intern, Juan Carlos, Mr. Barry, Ronald, Edler, Clive and Elmer; the crew!

Elmer, the part time working who we were hoping to bring on full-time, will be going to night school and was offered a suitable schedule and promotion from his present job. He will continue to work with us part time and will still be able to assist us with the technical and computer aspect of the ministry. Ronald is going to continue to work with us in the early mornings and he will continue to work at his church full time. We are hoping to he will be able to move into announcing the News as he gets more comfortable with it. Please pray for us to adjust with the sudden changes and for the Lord to provide another full time, on site person to come onboard with the ministry as there’s so much we’re seeking to do to reach out to the community.
