End of 2014 019On a short walk tonight I stopped and greeting a friend with his granddaughter standing outside of church and he jokingly asked me if I wanted his beautiful girl because her father doesn’t. Puzzled by that statement and wondering if I heard him correctly or if somehow I misunderstood what he said because of his thick Spanish accent. He then explained that the girl’s father recently abandoned his family and this was the third time he has done this. A few steps later, a young man that I knew approached me staggered with a beer bottle in each hand and almost walked into me not recognizing who I was then uncomfortably tried to give me an update on his life. Broken hearted over both of these incidents and unable to refrain from calling out to the Lord under my breathe. As I turned the corner, coming toward me was Lionel whose sister had recently given birth to premature twins and was recovering from the death of one of her babies. He updated me on the health of the surviving child and mother’s returning to the island this coming week. This all took place within 15 minutes and I knew it wasn’t a coincident before my short walk began, I was praying with a young man asking God to pour out His Spirit on San Pedro Town and to use us in any way He sees fit. Breaking my heart with the things that breaks His heart was a good way for Him to begin to answer that prayer!

It's aways a challenge trying to summarize a month in a few word!

It’s aways a challenge trying to summarize a month in a few word!

March Madness:   I’m not sure why this title was giving to this month but it summarizes it well for me with the series of abrupt changes in our staff, the long hours in seeking to get things back to normal, hosting a friend’s friend in our Guest Apartment, the daily morning shift at the radio station, and the moment by moment life in full time ministry. I honestly marvel at the strength and ability the Lord has granted me to get done daily, “As your days, so shall your strength be.” It truly is an honor to be exactly where God wants you to be and doing exactly what He calls you to do. As the month of March comes to an end, I wanted to remind you, my faithful supporters and donors of this ministry of the deadline for my transition from Saving Grace World Mission to the He Intends Victory. This was sent out by my good friend Jack Fletcher, the accountant of Saving Grace World Mission, I apologize if you have already received this and have made the necessary changes:

” As of March 31, 2015, we will no longer be able to accept donations to him or his ministry. All automatic giving will be stopped and any checks      received after that date will have to be returned. We are confident that you will all want to continue to support his work, so we ask that you please go to his new website right away and sign up so that your support will continue, uninterrupted.  You can do that with this direct link           https://heintendsvictory.org/lighthouseradio.

Thank you very much for your loving, sacrificial support and for believing God for the work He is doing in and with me in making an eternal impact and investment in the lives He has entrusted me with in Belize and beyond. My sincere thanks!

Co-Laborers in Ministry: I met Patrick & Deana McCusker several years ago when they were exploring the possibility of moving to Belize as missionaries with their 4 boys. Over the years it has been a blessing getting to know this family and we’ve become good friends and fellow laborers together in Christ. Patrick is pastor of the Calvary Cayo located in Santa Elena Town in the Cayo District and is one of my Board of Directors for Lighthouse Caribbean Christian Radio Ministry and He Intends Victory Belize. Recently I was contacted by Patmos Reality Discipleship School through my good friend Pastor Carlos Bautista from El Salvador regarding hosting the mission trip for their 30 students. Really excited about this ministry and knowing their desire to serve, I contacted Patrick and he was glad to jump in and facilitate this team which turned out to be a great blessing for Calvary Cayo, CC Los Tambos, and Amazing Grace Christian Fellowship. This is an example of my friend and partner in ministry, always available to come alongside of me whether it’s in the area of encouragement, prayers or availability to practically serve or assist. We are in the process of discussing ways of being more effective in the He Intends Victory Belize Ministry as both Patrick and his wife Deana have a heart and desire greatly to reach out and minister to those infected or affected with HIV/AIDS in the Cayo District. There’s a lot to share with you on that which I will do in upcoming Updates. Please pray for the plans that is in our hearts for He Intends Victory Belize!

Central, South America, Caribbean: I was notified at the beginning of March of the Central American Pastors/Leaders in San Salvador and uncertain if I would be able to attend due to all of the sudden changes at the Lighthouse losing our newly trained staff. But God….two of my favorite words, provided a way and after much planning I was off to El Salvador for an amazing weekend of encouragement in the Word, fellowship with fellow pastors/missionaries, meeting and networking with many in our region. This year along with all of the Central American countries represented, there were pastors/leaders from Panama, Peru, Colombia, Brazil, and Cuba. I appreciated very much the hard work by many who made this weekend possible and we all left refreshed, challenged and stirred with excitement for what the Lord is doing in this part of the world. Once again, I survived being in a Spanish speaking country without knowing the language; most of the speakers taught in English and good translation was provided for the Spanish speakers. It was a blessing to be joined by fellow pastors/leaders from Belize this year and enjoyed good fellowship with them; Patrick McCusker of Santa Elena Town, Erick & Magdalena Aguilar of Los Tambos Village and Rudy & Rachel Plett of Spanish Lookout!

Shining the Light in Darkness: We are slowly checking things off from our ‘to-do & needs list’ at the Lighthouse and so grateful to the Lord for His provisions. 1) The wiring for our corroded phone/internet cable have been replaced, 2) the fast rusting base of our broadcast tower was replaced by a concrete slab and now we are streaming the radio station 24/7. A few weeks back Tim Whitehead, Director of Galcom called me asking if I would be interested in testing there new invention.  A small package with this gadget arrived in the mail last week from Galcom International which would enable us to stream Lighthouse Christian Radio on their server.

I was thrilled to say the least when it arrived as we’ve desired greatly to stream for some time now but never thought it would happen for years to come. We are often asked my many when we would begin to stream on the internet. Within a few minutes after following step by step instructions from the inventor Allan McGuirl Jr, we were up and streaming. So now we can say, “Lighthouse Christian Radio, shining the Light in Darkness for all San Pedro, Caye Caulker, portions of the Belize District on FM 101.3 and to the World on www.galcom.org/streamer”. We are so thankful to the folks at Galcom International for making the long awaited dream a reality!

On the top of our ‘needs list’ now is to repair or replacement our back-up generator so that our broadcast would not be interrupted when electrical black-outs occurs especially now since we are streaming. Also, we are in dire need for staffing as it is only Elmer Montero and I, he works part time in Operations/News gathering and broadcasting. I work the morning and afternoon on-air shift along with the administration and practical day to day running of the station and ministry making for extremely long days. After being so encouraged at both the NRB Convention and this recent Central American Pastors/Leaders Conference about the awesome privilege and responsibility of Christian broadcasting and effective ministry in getting the gospel out in our town and reaching as many as possible. We are really seeking likeminded and ministry minded servants of the Lord Jesus Christ to assist us in fulfilling the ministry God has called us to do here. Would you please seriously pray for us and for those that God has called and is preparing to come alongside of us to be a part of the exciting things that He has in store for us here in Belize and beyond. Please contact me if you are interested or if you know someone who have been seeking and preparing for an opportunity to serve the Lord!

Walking in the Light: Upon returning to Belize after the Conference in El Salvador, I missed a flight from Belize Municipal Airport to San Pedro and was rescheduled for the next one not knowing that the Lord has specific purposes for this. Upon entering the small airport I was greeting by noise of (loud expressions of joy) 13 ladies who I later found out where members of the International Black Women Public Policy Institute who were at the end of their time in Belize. They conducted a Women’s Conference in Belize City and was heading out to San Pedro for some rest and relaxation before heading back to their various destinations. After a brief introduction with the president of this organization, thoughts began developing  which led to introducing her a few days later to Miss San Pedro Michelle Nunez. Michelle and I are the two Belizean serving as Board Members for On Eagle Wings; a ministry working with those involved in human trafficking & sexual exploitation. Michelle recently launched a girls group called SHINE and was leaving the very next day for North Carolina for training with OEW. Upon hearing about the girl’s group and the vision for SHINE, Barbara Perkins, president of the Institute was very excited and pledged assistance to group which confirmed that this truly was indeed a ‘divine appointment’.  I love it when God orders our footstep and leads us in fulfilling His purposes and unfolding His plans. More on Michelle and SHINE coming up in the next Update. Please pray for her as God is doing some amazing things in her life currently!
