Joel from Uganda

Joel’s Story:

Joel smiles most of the time and is very social, but he is deaf and cannot speak. Sadly, his mother is HIV+ and cannot walk. She delayed going to the hospital to get medication, so that is why she cannot walk. Joel's father deserted them long ago and married another wife. Joel's brother, who can speak, stays with the father. Joel did live with his father but was mistreated by his stepmother, so he ran away to his mother. They are on their own.
