Daniel Z. is a 25-year-old African man from the Maasai tribe in Tanzania who made the decision to surrender his life to Jesus Christ.
In Daniel’s village, many people follow pagan beliefs and practices, including seeking medicine from witch doctors. After becoming a Christian, Daniel refused to contribute money toward traditional medicine because of his new faith.
His decision brought strong opposition. Some of his peers begged him to stop going to church, and when he refused, some even physically attacked him. Daniel chose to fast and pray. His attackers continued to search for him, but they were unable to find him.
Daniel also faced opposition from his own family, who hoped to draw him away from Jesus. In their cultural tradition, marriages are often arranged by the parents, so his family chose a young woman to become his wife and brought her to their home. Daniel refused the arrangement. Eventually, the young woman returned to her family when it became clear that Daniel was not going to marry her.
In Daniel’s village, many young men spend their time herding livestock rather than attending school. Consequently, Daniel had never attended school and could not read or write.
Today, that is changing.
Daniel has heard the call of God to serve people like those from his village. He has learned to read and write and continues to make significant progress. He is now attending Bible school and preparing to serve the Lord.
Daniel faced pressure from his friends, opposition from his family, and challenges that could have easily caused him to walk away from his faith. But Daniel remained determined and committed to Jesus Christ.
Today, the young man who was once pressured to forsake Jesus is preparing to become a leader who can return to his community and share the Gospel with others.
Daniel’s story is a beautiful reminder of what can happen when a life is transformed by Jesus and someone makes the decision to faithfully follow Him.
